Being self employed and a small family business owner has fantastic perks as you can imagine, such as being able to create our own flexible schedule and being blessed with the ability to work from home. Nevertheless, these great benefits bring along with it the great responsibility of taking care of the business even while we are away. For a family of four who loves to live life outside, that means that no matter how much we want to get away for an extended period of time or to be “unplugged”, it is typically just not feasible. That is until we were introduced to the portable power of EnerPlex!
Our need for power
Life is better outside! Thanks to the portable power of the EnerPlex Generatr 1200 our family has had the opportunity to enjoy more adventures outside and Off-The-Grid than ever before this Summer. What is the Generatr 1200 you ask? The Generatr 1200 is the ultimate in portable solar powered generators. Using Lithium-Ion battery technology the Generatr 1200 is significantly lighter weight, quieter and fume free compared to other portable generators. Rugged and powerful, it is able to charge everything from smartphones & tablets to larger scale electronics such as refrigerators & televisions. (Not that we would ever take a television with us outdoors while camping. But we surely could if we wanted to! 😉
Product Overview
This Summer we took the Generatr 1200 along with us on several roadtrips “Upnorth” to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We camped at several off-the-grid campgrounds along the beautiful shores of Lake Superior. Having the ability to spend quality time with our family outdoors while staying connected to our business was important to us. We were able to stay connected, instead of being stressed out worrying about missed business calls and emails. We used the Generatr’s stored power to keep our smartphones and laptop fully charged to stay connected with our business as well as for several other personal uses. In the morning we powered our coffee pot to brew our morning coffee (note, having a heat element does tend to drain the Generatr a bit faster) We also recharged the batteries to our DSLR cameras that we used while on our afternoon nature hikes. Later in the day we used the 12-volt outlet to power our Airhead Super High Pressure Air Pump to inflate iSUP’s for afternoon paddles down the Autrain river. At night we plugged in and powered our LED lights for safety in the dark as well as creating a quiet and romantic ambiance. Pairing the EnerPlex Generatr 1200 with the EnerPlex Commandr 20 (a 20-watt lightweight, durable, and flexible solar panel) allowed us to collect and store power from the sun, keeping us powered up even through extended stays.
At home we quickly found many other great uses and benefits for the EnerPlex Generatr as well. Living in a rural Northern Michigan area, power outages are not uncommon during bad weather. Again, having a home based business we rely on our smartphones and laptops to stay connected to our customers. Being able to be prepared with stored power ready and available to keep our electronics powered up at home during a power outage has been very beneficial. We have also found other unexpected uses for the portable power of the Generatr out in the yard, such as pruning trees and storm cleanup in the back 40 using an electric pole saw powered by the Generatr securely strapped to our ATV.
Overall Impression/thoughts
Overall the Summer of 2016 proved to be a hotter than normal summer with temps much above normal the majority of the time. When we weren’t Upnorth camping our family spent a lot of time at the beach and on the water enjoying our Airhead SUP’s. Since pumping up several inflatable SUPs by hand takes a bit more time than we would like, we found that using the 12 Volt output on the EnerPlex Generatr to power our pump inflated the SUP’s much faster allowing us to get out on the water much quicker and more often. We were able to pump up a single SUP in approximately 7 minutes!
